For more than 30 years I've worked across rail, transport and offshore wind, with a particular interest in skills, innovation and the opportunities they create for people, places and communities.
From railways and transport networks to offshore wind and energy infrastructure, I've been fortunate to work on projects that make a lasting contribution to communities and the economy.
Alongside the projects themselves, I've developed a particular interest in the wider benefits that can emerge from infrastructure and investment, from skills and employment to business growth and stronger communities.
Over time, I've become just as interested in what happens after a project is delivered as the project itself.
Creating stronger links between industry and academia has become an important part of my work in recent years. One example is a £2.5 million UKRI-funded offshore wind innovation programme developed in partnership with the Universities of Dundee and Edinburgh. Building on the collaborative approach developed through Forth and Tay Offshore, the programme ensures research remains connected to real commercial and operational challenges and delivers practical benefits for Scotland's offshore wind industry.

Across rail, transport and offshore wind, my work has included leading industry collaboration, supporting Transport Scotland on the National Transport Strategy and future transport investment, chairing the development of a Train Driver Apprenticeship, working with Skills Development Scotland on skills initiatives, leading SME engagement programmes, leading two days of the official COP26 Low Carbon Logistics event at Mossend International Rail Freight Park, and bringing together organisations from industry, education and government to help create opportunities that last beyond the life of individual projects.
While much of my work has been based in Scotland, the challenges and opportunities that interest me are shared across many regions and sectors.
